School Safety Drills

Michigan schools will see a change in safety drills next year.

Governor Snyder signed a bill into law yesterday, which will require schools to conduct one extra lockdown drill and one less fire drill. According to The Associated Press, the legislation comes after a report that school safety laws were being ignored. Starting the next school year, districts will be required to document completed drills on their websites within 30 days. They also must inform local emergency officials and come up with a cardiac emergency plan. By the end of the year, schools will have completed five fire, two tornado and three lockdown drills.
