Today is the National Point in Time count to gather data regarding the amount of people who are without a home. Kittie Tuinstra, Executive Director of Oceana’s Home Partnership explained, “Its gives us a snapshot of what homelessness looks like in our community, right now, today. It's not an all inclusive count [or] representative of numbers for people experiencing homelessness throughout the year. These are one of the benchmarks HUD looks at when looking at the level of need that is present in the community. It's important, especially in rural areas, that we do our best to try to find everybody to get them connected with services and get them counted because every person matters.” If you are or are aware of someone who is currently experiencing Homelessness, Ms. Tuinstra encouraged connecting with the local Housing Agency in order to be included in tonight's count. The Housing Agency for Mason and Manistee County is Truenorth Community Services, their number is (231) 924-0641. Oceana County’s Housing Agency is Oceana’s Home Partnership and can be contacted at (231)873-2222.
