Council Passes Rental Ordinance 5-2

The rental inspection ordinance passed last night at city hall due to a 5-2 vote from the council.  The ordinance is an attempt to clean up unfit housing by having inspections periodically for  those renting within the city limits.

The reactions were mixed while some commended the city for making many changes to better serve the community.

While others thought there was still work to do.

The ordinance will be reviewed in one year time for improvements or adjustments.

A quick breakdown has inspection fees of $50 per unit. Registration of rental dwellings at a cost of $15 per unit and ownership transfer fee of $10 per rental units. Inspections must be done once every three years.

Other current housing coalitions are working to improve all buildings within the city and beyond.
