Lake Winds Energy Park Tours (Thu. 1 Aug, 2013 6:00 am - Sat. 31 Aug, 2013 11:00 am)

Consumers Energy, in conjunction with the Ludington and Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce, will offer public tours of the Lake Winds Ener gy Park located in Riverton and Summit Townships. The tours will be offered through August 31st. Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will begin and end at the Ludington and Scottville Chamber of Commerce located at the Mason County Airport. The tour schedule and route are subject to change, but the schedule is as follows: Friday and Saturday at 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm. Harvest Festival Queen Applications (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 8:00 pm - Fri. 30 Aug, 2013 7:59 pm)

Preparation for the 2013 Harvest Festival Queen competition is underway and applications are now being accepted.

The Harvest Festival Queen Pageant is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2013.

Applications can be picked up at the Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce office and the City of Scottville or found online at www.ludington.org/scottville-harvest-festival.

The entry deadline is Friday, August 30, 2013.

In order to participate, contestants must be female between the ages of 16 and 20, single with no children, a resident of Mason County, and willing to meet new people and have fun.

Lithuanian Potluck Dinner (-)

The Lithuanian Potluck Dinner will be held Sunday, August 25th at 1pm sharp at Mason County Eastern School in Custer.

Bring a dish to pass and your own table service.

Donations for door prizes are welcome.

Anyone of Lithuanian descent and their friends are welcome to attend.

Performing Arts Classes (Mon. 26 Aug, 2013 5:00 am - 7:00 am)

Students entering 6th through 9th grade this fall, are invited to explore their artistic side at the Mason County District Library with a series of two-day classes presented through the generosity of the West Shore Art League. Students may register for ONE class only. Registration forms are available at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville. These classes are free but no-shows will be billed for supplies. Cancellations will be accepted up to 24 hours before the class begins.

Performing Arts will focus on creating a character; physically, vocally and emotionally. Then a short scene through improvisation will be created involving the characters. Start to observe the people around you for some fun ideas! Performing arts will be held on Monday, August 26th from 9 to 11am and, Tuesday, August 27th from 1-3pm at the Ludington Library.

Job seekers and employers can connect with each other at the Michigan Virtual Career Fair
August 28 from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at Northwest Michigan Works! Service Centers in Cadillac, Petoskey and Traverse City.

Within MiVirtualCareerFair, employers host exhibitor booths that include links to job postings, company profiles, employee benefits, and employer contact information, and allow job seekers to communicate one-on-one with company representatives. MiVirtualCareerFair will provide opportunities for live conversations between businesses and job seekers via instant chat and/or webcams. Job seekers will also be able to upload résumés for job listings.

2013 Brethren Days (Fri. 30 Aug, 2013 5:00 am - Sun. 1 Sep, 2013 5:00 pm)

The 2013 Annual Brethren Days
Friday, August 30th through Sunday, September 1st.

The charge for admission on both Friday and Saturday evening is $3 per person.  Children 12 and under are free with an adult; however, no one under the age of 16 is allowed in after 9pm without adult supervision.  

All bands and entertainment will be performing under the gazebo in the Dickson Township Park. 
The Cook Shack will be open, as well as the Beer Tent. 

Other activities for the weekend include Softball Tournaments, a Poker Run, a Cardboard Boat Race, Kids Games & Basketball Skills Clinic, Arts & Crafts Show, a Chicken BBQ, the Grand Parade, and of course, a fantastic fireworks display on Saturday night at dusk.
