A grant request for a year-round school schedule is denied to Baldwin Community Schools.
Upnorthlive.com reports that the Michigan Department of Education denied the request but the school board plans on moving forward with the program, despite the setback. The plan was to start the new curriculum this fall, however, Superintendent Stiles Simmons, says the goal now is to implement the changes for the 2015-2016 school year. The goal of the balanced school calendar is to help with skills lost during summer break. The cost to make the switch, including upgrades, would be around 700-thousand-dollars.
