Mason County Road Commissioner Gary Dittmer is retiring after 35 years.
The Ludington Daily News reports that Dittmer's last day will be next week. 20 of those years was spent as director for the commission. Throughout his time, just some of the things Dittmer has experienced include two 100-year floods (in 96 and 2008), the wind farm project, and replacement of the Scottville Road bridge. Last month, the MCRC won the County Road Association of Michigan's Best Practice Award for their work with Consumer's Energy. Dittmer says he will miss working with his co-workers and township officials more than the job itself. He also plans on spending his retirement with his family.
