Federal benefits will be awarded to the same-sex couples who married in Michigan last week.
About 300 same-sex couples will now receive federal benefits according to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who made the announcement yesterday. He stated the marriages performed last week will be recognized by the federal government... even though Michigan will not extend state benefits. Holder said these couples will not have to wait for the federal benefits which they are entitled to. This statement came two days after Governor Snyder said Michigan will not recognize the marriages performed last weekend.
