A 40 year old Rothbury man was arrested during the evening hours of February 19, 2014. The man has been lodged at the Oceana County Jail for Aggravated Domestic Assault, Assaulting a Police Officer, and Malicious Destruction of Police Property.
A Michigan State Police trooper from the Hart Post and an Oceana County deputy were dispatched to Village of Rothbury to speak with the victim of the assault. While investigating the complaint, they learned that the victim had been repeatedly assaulted by her boyfriend of many years. The injuries sustained to the victim required medical treatment. She was ultimately transported by ambulance to Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby.
After speaking with the victim, the investigating officers went to home of the suspect in Oceana County’s Grant Township. At the completion of the investigation, the officers advised the suspect he was under arrest. While placing the suspect under arrest, the suspect kicked one of the officers in the leg. While being transported to the Oceana County Jail, the suspect kicked out a window in the transporting officer’s patrol car.
Aggravated Domestic Assault is a one year misdemeanor, Assault on a Police Officer is a felony punishable by up to two years in prison, and Destruction of Police Property is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The suspects name is being withheld pending formal arraignment in the 78th District Court of Hart.
