Today is day one in the Trooper Butterfield murder trial.
About 90 potential jurors will be in the Mason County courtroom today for jury selection. 19-year-old, Eric Knysz, faces a number of charges... including murder of a peace officer, which carries a life sentence. Michigan State Police Trooper paul butterfield was shot and killed in the line of duty on September 9th during a routine traffic stop on Custer Road. In December, Eric's wife, Sarah, was given a two to five year sentence for her role in the murder. Eric's mother, Tammi Spofford, also faces charges in Mason County for accessory after the fact and motor vehicle theft. She allegedly helped the couple steal a car from a residence in Branch Township. Knysz's trial is scheduled to last nine days.
