Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Hart Post have arrested a 26 year old Howard City man in connection with the abuse of a 13 month old child.
Troopers responded to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont Saturday night (Jan 11th) at the request of Child Protective Services (CPS) to investigate serious injuries to a child. The baby was brought to the hospital by her mother after she observed injuries that occurred while the child was left in the care of her live-in boyfriend. Medical evaluation showed that the child suffered three (3) broken ribs and significant bruising to the head, face and abdomen. Doctors identified the child’s injuries as being the result of abuse.
Investigation by troopers identified the mother’s live-in boyfriend as a suspect, and ultimately led to his arrest.
The suspect was charged with one (1) count of child abuse 1st degree and was lodged in the Montcalm county jail pending arraignment.
Child abuse in the 1st degree is a felony offense, punishable by imprisonment for life or any term of years
