A Muskegon County man is sentenced to 55 years in prison for arson. WZZM says, 74-year-old, Gerald Singer, of Norton Shores, was convicted in March by a Grand Rapids federal jury on eleven different charges. Some of these charges include arson, mail fraud and filing false tax documents. Singer was attempting to collect $700,000 in insurance settlements by burning down a number of Muskegon-area properties that he owned, including an apartment complex. He appeared in court Thursday where he was given his lengthy sentence in addition to having to pay just over $650,000 in restitution. The judge told him he was given the 55-year-sentence because someone could have been injured or died in the fires.
