Eric Knysz is going straight to trial in the Trooper Butterfield shooting case.
The 19-year-old appeared in the Mason County Court yesterday for a preliminary hearing and was denied a plea deal by the prosecutor. He is being charged with murder of a peace officer, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, auto theft and second-time habitual offender. Knysz is also facing three charges in Manistee County. His 20-year-old, pregnant wife, Sarah, is charged in Mason County with accessory to murder, after the fact, and unlawful driving away of a vehicle. In Manistee, she is being charged with the latter and awaiting arraignment. Sarah has preliminary trial scheduled for November 5th in Mason County. A nine-day trial for Eric Knysz will begin February 18, 2014.
