The Lake Michigan Carferry gets its consent decree passed.
The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice will allow the Badger to discharge ash for the rest of the year and during the five-month sailing season next year. By 2015, ash discharge will be completely eliminated. The Badger has already taken steps towards this by using coal that produces less ash. In addition, LMC is designing an ash retention system to be installed on the boat. CEO and President of the LMC, Bob Manglitz says the finalization of the decree ensures the Badger will be sailing long into the future. Director of Marketing and Media Relations, Terri Brown told MOM News, "We support the decree and LMC looks forward to providing a reliable and valued cross lake experience for many years to come. We have no other comments while the Judge makes his decision."
