20-year-old, Sarah Renee Knysz, was arraigned yesterday in relation to the murder of Michigan State Police Trooper, Paul Butterfield. Knysz was charged with two counts of a felony. Count 1 as an accessory after the fact, and the second unlawful driving away of a vehicle. Each count carries a 5 year prison sentence. Sarah is currently being lodged at the Mason County Jail with a $250,000 bond. A preliminary trial is scheduled for September 25th. Her husband, 19-year-old, Eric John Knysz, is expected to be arraigned today, when he returns from the hospital in Traverse City. He is currently recovering from a gunshot wound to the knee. Eric will be charged with homicide of a police officer, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unlawful driving away of a vehicle and finally habitual offender, second felony offense.
For those who would like to pay their respects, Trooper Butterfield's funeral will be this Saturday at 1pm at Manistee High School. Visitation will begin at 10am.
