The Michigan Senate approves Medicaid expansion.
The legislation passed yesterday which will expand coverage to nearly 500,000 low-income residents. However, the proposal originally failed before passing, with one senator choosing not to vote. This resulted in a 19-18 vote... not enough for passage. A majority of senators than agreed to reconsider the measure and a few hours later passed the bill in a 20-18 vote after a change in vote from 'no' to 'yes' by a senator. Governor Snyder commended the Senate yesterday in a press conference saying that not only will this help many Michiganders but also save tax dollars and boost our economy. But, Snyder hopes the Senate will reconsider their decision on not putting the bill into immediate effect.
