In a news release from the Mason County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a drowning on Saturday, July 20th at about 4pm. The incident took place in the Nordhouse Dunes area along Lake Michigan in Grant Township.
67-year-old, Bruce Henderson, of East Lansing, was swimming with friends in Lake Michigan when he went under. After approximately 20 minutes in the water, he was pulled out by one of his friends.
Witnesses on the beach attempted CPR until rescue units of the Grant Township Fire Department arrived and transported the victim off the beach to a waiting Life EMS ambulance. Henderson was then taken to West Shore Hospital in Manistee, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Grant Township Fire Department, Life EMS and the Federal Forest Service.
