A 30-year-old man is in custody after a beating in Muskegon Heights.
On Friday, the man was taken into custody for leaving a 32-year-old man on in critical condition and on life support. Police Chief Lynne Gill says witnesses said that the suspect was acting in self defense because the victim attacked him first. However, the suspect has a history of mental illness so it is unknown right now if charges will be filed against him... it is up to the prosecutor to make that decision. The suspect is currently in custody in the mental-health unit of Mercy Health in Muskegon and the victim is also being treated there.
