Scottville is considering hiring a contracted lawn mowing service for the city, says the Mason County Press.
The matter was brought up in yesterday's city council meeting by City Manager, Amy Williams, and Mayor, Dick Macki. Due to such a high number of lawn violators, the Scottville Department of Public Works is having a hard time keeping up with all the violations. The help of a third-party might help speed things up. Residents are given one warning before DPW employees mow the lawn themselves at a $25 fee plus the employees regular hourly wages. Williams said, if the fine isn't paid a property tax lien is placed against the violator. Another option the city commission is considering would be to have the DPW employees work overtime but charge the owners the time and half wages rather than regular.
