Right before lawmakers go into a summer recess, different legislatures had to be voted on. Proposals included schools, Medicaid and even fireworks.
A certain House bill would allow a school district to be dissolved if they are financially struggling to complete a school year. This has already been the case with Buena Vista and Inkster school districts. Medicaid expansion has been heavily debated on recently and the bill was finally passed to go onto Senate. Medicaid will be expanded under Obamacare, adding about 470,000 low-income people to the program but limiting their time on it. A Senate Bill regarding a home heating fund will assist low-income residents with their home heating bills and a law was passed allowing local governments to prohibit late night/early morning fireworks on certain days, just in time for fourth of July.
