Sean Michael Phillips Back in Court Friday

Sean Michael Phillips will be back in court at the end of this week. He will once again face a judge to determine if there is enough evidence to charge him with open murder of his daughter, "Baby Kate." Mason County Prosecutor, Paul Spaniola... and the Assistant Attorney General filed an appeal after it was ruled, in September, that there wasn't sufficient evidence to charge Phillips with the crime. Judge Richard Cooper will hear arguments from both sides this Friday. Phillips is still serving his sentence for his 2012 conviction of unlawful imprisonment.

The City of Ludington Settles a Lawsuit

The Ludington City Council voted to settle a lawsuit against the city and its police officers. At last night's meeting, the council approved to settle the suit for $15,000 and avoid the costs of going to trial. The city was being sued for $250,000 because of alleged excessive force used by two Ludington police officers, while arresting Travis Malone, in 2011. Malone was 16 at the time. He also claimed gross negligence and assault and battery. Malone is currently serving a five to 15 year prison sentence for arson, stealing a vehicle, and breaking and entering.
