Scottville Home Fire

A home in Scottville catches fire. Scottville, Custer, Pere Marquette and Riverton Fire Departments all responded to the scene, on State Street, at about 4pm, yesterday. The fire started and spread throughout the second story of the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 40 minutes, but ammunition in the house caused for concern. The family of three made it out of the house safely. 

Benzie Co. Woman Arrested for Posing as Doctor

A Benzie County woman is in jail for pretending to be a doctor. The 38-year-old woman was arrested in her home by the Traverse Narcotics Team and other local agencies. Upnorthlive.com reports the woman was fraudulently calling in prescriptions at pharmacies for herself. FBI started to investigate her after a pharmacist made a tip to authorities. Officers seized different prescriptions when they made the arrest. She is currently lodged at the Benzie County Jail. 

House of Flavors Recalls Ice Cream

House of Flavors recalls one of its ice creams. The manufacturing company, based out of Ludington, is recalling Belmont Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough because it may contain nuts that don't appear on the label. The ice cream is sold at Aldi stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. House of Flavors released a statement yesterday, saying the recall comes after two people reported allergic reactions from the ice cream. Customers can return the ice cream to an Aldi store. The closest ones are in Muskegon and Big Rapids.
