Troopers from the Hart Post arrested an 18 year old Walkerville man and apprehended a juvenile for the theft of a van and malicious destruction of property at the Walkerville Public Schools Bus facility.
Troopers were called to investigate damage to the fence at the gated in bus garage at approximately 11:40 PM Wednesday night, and quickly determined that a full size van belonging to the school was missing. It was determined that two subjects climbed the fence to the facility, stole the van and crashed it through the locked gate to get out.
Troopers tracked the vehicle for several miles and discovered the damaged van stuck in the snow on a seasonal road. Troopers tracked the Suspects for several miles and located them hiding in a Christmas tree plantation where they were arrested.
An 18 year old Walkerville man was lodged in the Oceana county jail pending arraignment on felony UDAA (Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile) and malicious destruction of property charges. A 16 year old juvenile was apprehended and will be petitioned into Probate court on the same charges.
Troopers were assisted by Deputies from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
